Summary: Arthur has just found out about his and Merlin's daughter's first date this coming Friday. Arthur does a quick Facebook for the kid as a background check and sees the prompt for this drabble staring him in the face..





"NO!"

"Arthur be reasonable. She's 16."

"Exactly! 16, you know what boys are like at 16. I will not have my Bethany Rose exposed to that!" Arthur pointed to Merlin's laptop computer screen like it was showing off badly done German BSDM slave porn(not that Merlin knew anything about that).

"She's my daughter too and at some point we have to trust we raised her well enough to make the right choices."

"That point is not now and not with a boy who can't keep his trousers on!"

Merlin looked back at the facebook photo of their daughter's classmate. The boy wasn't wearing much and Merlin could see why his daughter held a keen interest.

"Hello sirs, I'm Patrick. I'm here for Beth."

"No no, you can't say that to Arthur. You'll need dental work after saying something like that." Merlin only had maybe 5 minutes to coach this boy before Arthur stormed from his office. Bless Uther for stalling for time. ("Ha! and you thought I was a tyrant when you first dated Arthur. Ha!")

The boy looked confused and worried, and who could blame him. Merlin had already scared him to death with online threats to his manhood only weeks ago when he found a love note from the kid to their Beth. Merlin had time to adjust and get use to it. He apologized for being a little over protective, but Arthur was very different, to him Beth was still the little girl in pigtails the adoption agency put in their arms 13 years ago. He wasn't ready to let go.

"Try, 'It's really nice to finally meet you.' That might help. Do you have the other questions and answers I gave you memorized?"

"Yes sir. The facebook photo was prank and I took it down because I'm normally very reserved and would never do something like that and be proud of it. My goal is to become a doctor of Veterinary medicine, because I like to work with animals and see the smiles they bring to others."

Merlin nodded. "Good Good. You'll do fine."

"Do I really have to go into veterinary medicine Mr Emrys-Pendragon?"

"No, but you will for tonight. You have a dog right? It makes you smile, right? This counts as an interest since you haven't yet made a career choice."

Merlin looked around. He could hear Arthur raising his voice to Uther in frustration from the den. Beth was standing guard at the door. The louder Arthur got the sooner the conversation would end.

"Ok. No more time for chatter. Go outside and ring the bell. And Patrick remember to breathe."

"Merlin, My Bethy is out right now with super-pants." Arthur sounded like he might cry, his head comfortably pillowed in Merlin's lap.

"Yes but you threatened successfully to cleave his bollocks from his body with a rusty meat cleaver. Where did you get that by the way?" Merlin tried to sooth him by petting his hair. The gentle strokes usually calmed his husband

"I made a purchase soon after I saw that photo on facebook. I somehow felt the need for an antique weapon."

"In a few years we'll have the house to ourselves again. She'll be away at uni."

Arthur groaned. Bethy was daddy's little girl.

"I meant that we can go back to how we used to do things before. Making breakfast in nothing but an apron. Giving you a proper blowjob whenever and wherever I want."

Arthur pouted. They both would still miss their baby girl, but Merlin saw the tent between his husband's legs and knew that somehow they would be able to comfort each other through the storm.

kfjhdfjkhjk *flails* I have such a fondness for stories where Arthur/Merlin are parents, so this was amazing! Arthur's over-protectiveness, Merlin trying to help even though he was worried too, Uther's comment, it was all amazing!

Yeah Arthur I think had to be off the rails, but Merlin would be just as bad, he would only have his time with Uther-in-law to temper him and remind him of what it was like. :)

Ahahahaha - cute from start to finish. I love the way you've taken the traditional joke about the daddy sitting on the porch cleaning his shotgun while his little girl is picked up by some punk who reminds him of himself at that age and made it fit Arthur's personality. The meat-cleaver...

I loved Merlin in this - the fact that he simply had to threaten the boy before settling into the idea and becoming supportive.

Exactly! Arthur can definitely see himself in this kid, which is why he has no intention of liking him. Merlin can see himself in this kid too(and a bit of Arthur) so yeah he had to be just as crazy for a moment before coming to his senses.

That was delightful. It really is harrowing when your baby starts to date.

Merlin coaching the boy so Arthur won't straight up kill him was hilarious and I have to love Uther for pitching in.

Children dating is one of those things I think parents dread, because they know what it was like and it usually happens right at the moment when the relationship boundaries are changing with the child.

And I don't think the kid would have survived without Merlin. :)

They are scary, aren't they? Honest I would run the other way If I saw arthur as the father-in-law of someone I was interested in. That or I would have to love them a whole bunch. Merlin isn't much better either. :)
