“Well that was frightening,” Merlin said quietly as he and Arthur left the armory. Uther’s ghost had nearly succeeded in killing him. Who’d have thought a ghost could do so much harm?

“I’m sorry,” Arthur replied. He cradled the horn in his hands as if he didn’t know what to do with the thing. He probably didn’t. Beyond stashing it in the vaults where it would never be seen again, Merlin didn’t know either.

“You don’t have to apologize for him, you know. You’re not him.”

“I know. But for some reason, I feel like I should.”

Merlin put a hand on his shoulder and stopped him. “Arthur, what he did here was his decision, and his alone. You may have accidentally freed him, but you’re not responsible for him.”

“Thank you, Merlin, but I still have much to put right from his actions.”

“Don’t worry. I’ll help you.”

Arthur gave him a small smile. “That’s right, you will. But for now, we go back to my chambers to tell Gaius what happened. I am sure he is curious.” They began walking again toward Arthur’s chambers.
