Arthur took the steps up to Merlin’s door at a jog, arriving and ringing the bell with a near manic sense of anticipation. It took a few moments for the door to swing open to a sleep rumpled, pajamaed, obviously confused Merlin. “Arthur? What are you doing here?” Merlin asked after a jaw cracking yawn.
“It’s Saturday and it's raining,” Arthur announced excitedly, thrusting a large sack into Merlin’s chest. “I got you these.” Merlin looked into the bag and then beamed at Arthur. “Oh, they’re brilliant!! I’ll get dressed and we can go feed the ducks. They love the rain nearly as much as we do!” He sped toward the bedroom, pulling his top over his head and dropping it on the floor. Arthur followed, picking up Merlin’s discarded pajamas along the way.
Merlin threw on a well worn sweater and a pair of dark skinny jeans and red socks that were lying next to his bed. He laced up and tied
the shiny dark green high top sneaker rain boots Arthur had brought before pulling the new
robot umbrella out of the bag and heading toward the front door where Arthur was waiting with a bag of stale bread they kept on hand for occasions like this.
They barreled down the steps like ten year olds, eager to try out their new rain gear (Arthur was wearing matching
black high top sneaker rain boots and carrying the same umbrella. He’d chosen the black boots because he wasn’t as ridiculously cute as Merlin but he couldn’t resist the robot umbrella because robots are cool.
They set off for the park smiling, enjoying the wet weather, their shiny new rain boots, the cheery robots and each other’s company. Arthur was going to ask Merlin to move in with him while they were sharing a giant mocha in their favorite coffee shop after the ducks had their fill.
He had a feeling it was going to be a great day.
