Dragoon smirks. "Pet magician?"

"Court... Sorcerer, " King Arthur repeats, his patience duly tested. "You may have a room at the castle. Free passage-"

"I have come and gone as I pleased for years." Dragoon interrupts. Having stepped forth from the shadows into the King's chambers minutes before was testament of that.

"Arrive by the main gate for once! It is reward for your aid. For helping my father against the mandrake curse. A pardon - an alliance, if that suits you better!"

Dragoon huffs. "If anything, you should seek my pardon."
Then he grins, suddenly amused. He walks towards the king, old bones protesting.

"I understand. You want your knight back. Sir Gwaine followed by his own free will, as you saw."

"Prove it! By..."

"No. Gaius has served you well for years. Honour him." Dragoon is close, laughing as Arthur startles when their eyes meet.

"Are you finally catching on?"

This is a really interesting story, I'm enjoying seeing it develop over time.

Honor Gaius, sure, but can Gaius do both that job and his physician job? As Nimueh said, being the self-sacrificing hero is not something people who know him expect from Gaius. (More behind-the-scenes or studied heroism, absolutely.) Magical Advisor to the Court (and to a Merliny Court Sorcerer), perhaps?

Merlin is so angry. I love how it's presenting as a crafty chess match/battle of wills and a whole lot of sass!
