It was not very big, a set of initials written with a black sharpie on the underside of Merlin’s wrist. In a heart, of all things! He’d protested, but he’d been silenced with a kiss. Actually, several passionate kisses.
So now he had to cover up his wrist with a thick leather bracelet and hope for the best.
But because high school was in fact the tenth circle of hell, Valiant grabbed him after gym class and twisted his wrist and the stupid bracelet had come undone and Val was giving his hand an extra painful wrench and peering down at his wrist and saying gleefully, “AP! Merlin has a crush on AP!”
And all of a sudden Val was pulled off him and was on the floor, looking startled. Arthur Pendragon was looming over him, saying coldly, “Don’t touch him.”
Val was a coward when someone actually confronted him, and he was scuttling away from Arthur mumbling, “Sorry, it was just a joke.”
“Not a very funny one,” Arthur answered. “And Merlin didn’t draw that mark. I did. It’s not a crush when it’s mutual.”
And that was how Arthur Pendragon and Merlin Emrys came out as a couple.
