Gwen isn’t jealous. Really she isn’t. It’s just that Arthur’s interactions with Merlin are unseemly. Merlin is too close to the King, too familiar, and Arthur likes it too much.

With Gwen Arthur is formal and solicitous. His touches are awkward and never taken without permission. Arthur is her King before he’s her husband. Gwen is his subject before she’s his wife.

With Merlin Arthur is loose and boyish. He’s grabby and demonstrative. He’s rude and funny and open hearted. He’s just Arthur and he’s the man Gwen wants.

Gwen might have the King’s ring but Merlin has Arthur's heart.
