Gaius spent as much time glaring at Arthur as stitching up the gash in Merlin’s temple allowed. “Quarter inch to the left you may have scored his eye, Sire” he said angrily.

“I know,” was Arthur’s quiet response.

Merlin sat, shoulders tight, flinching at each tug of the needle, refusing to look at Arthur.

This had to stop, Arthur decided. His anger and frustration had made him lose control and he’d actually drawn blood. There would be no next time. He took a steadying breath.

“Merlin, we need to talk about your magic.”

Merlin blanched white but met Arthur’s gaze.
