Arthur woke to the gray shadows of predawn light. In the summer heat they hadn’t closed the bed curtains, hoping for a late night breeze. They he thought, shifting to his side for a look at his companion.

Merlin was sleeping soundly, face half hidden in the shared pillow. Being bedmates was still new so Arthur was greedy to touch but left Merlin to slumber for a chance to look his fill.

Wild hair caressed a flushed cheek, plush lips parted on a quiet snore. How had Arthur ignored the evidence of Merlin’s magic when he’d been enchanted years ago?
