The front door opened, letting in Arthur and the smell of new fallen snow. Merlin pulled his sweater close against the draft.

Arthur dropped his briefcase, shrugged out of his overcoat, unwrapping his red wool scarf. “Sorry I’m late. There was a power outage on the tube and I couldn’t get a signal.”

“Lamb stew’s in the slow cooker. You look like you need thawing out.”

“I know something that will warm me right up,” Arthur answered, gathering Merlin close and leaning in for a chilly kiss. Merlin made approving noises as his husband’s cold lips warmed against his smile.
