Merlin placed the vambrace over his left arm and gave it several passes with a stiff brush before going over it with the oiled cloth until it shone brightly in the firelight. He gently laid the arm piece with the rest of Arthur’s armor, smiling at a job well done.

Then his eyes fell on the pile of boots Arthur had deposited by his side. “These all need a good clean, Merlin. They’ve gone stiff with mud.” He sighed and got up to retrieve the boot brush. This destiny business involved a lot more polishing than he thought it would.
