Merlin paused as he ran down the corridor. There were no footsteps behind him, which meant he could take a short break and catch his breath. He leaned up against the wall and held Excalibur to his shoulder. He closed his eyes, remembering the reason for his sudden flight. Nearly the whole population of the citadel had been enchanted to turn on him, and he was sure Morgana was behind it. Though he had no idea why—was she simply beyond irritated at Merlin, the servant or had she found out his real identity?
Footsteps suddenly sounded around the corner, and he took off again, rumination at an end. He’d figure this out, he just had to, before Camelot tore itself to pieces.
