Morgana woke up screaming. Gwen, who’d fallen asleep leaning her head on Morgana’s mattress, startled awake. “My Lady! Are you all right?”

Morgana panted and trembled still, but Gwen could see she was calming down. She took Morgana’s hand and stroked it, further calming her down. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“Gwen, I had two dreams in one. I remember dreaming about something, I don’t remember what, then waking up. But Gwen, I awoke to darkness!”

“What do you mean by that?”

“I mean I was dreaming, but I dreamed I woke up. And when I woke up, it was all dark. I could hear things in the background. I started screaming for help, but no help came. And that’s when I woke up for real, and you were there, as always.”

“Of course! I will always be here for you, Morgana.” Gwen squeezed the hand she held. “Do you think you can go back to sleep?”

“No. I think I want to stay awake for a little while and talk. If that’s okay?”

“If that’s what you need, I will help you.”

Morgana took Gwen’s other hand. “Thank you, Gwen. You’re a true friend.”

“I appreciate that, Morgana. Now, what should we talk about?”

And they talked for a while, until Morgana suppressed a yawn. Gwen tucked her back into bed then took Morgana’s hand. “Goodnight, Morgana. Sleep well.”

Morgana yawned again and closed her eyes. “Goodnight, Gwen.”
