Merlin was asleep.

As he watched his companion breathing so calmly, Gwaine realised that, he had learned to catalog all the ways Merlin could breathe.

That little puff he couldn’t hold back when Arthur exasperated him again.

The short breaths after a fight against bandits.

The deep intake of air just before his eyes turned into molten gold.

The little breaths in between moans when Gwaine kissed him there.

The laboured breaths after his climax.

The shared breath when they kissed.

But the one Gwaine preferred was the short surprised one each time he told Merlin that he loved him.
