Author's Notes:So, this is a little extract from a longer fic I started eons ago, and never got around to writing - maybe I will one day!

Gwaine stood in the pouring rain getting soaked, watching Arthur walk away. His coat collar up to shield against the heavy downpour and blond head bent.

“Arthur!” He shouted out but it was lost in the thundering sound of the water hitting the footpath and the noise of the city.

His clothes clung to his body and water dripped off the end of his nose.

“I love you too,” got stuck in his throat as he watched the other man disappear into the crowd.

He was wet, cold and exhausted – how had such a nice night out turned into this?

He was frozen to the spot as people hurried around him, rushing to get out of the rain.

The girl – Elena? – appeared in front of him, umbrella shielding her from the weather.

“I’m gonna go,” she smiled a little unevenly, patting his shoulder before walking off.

How had to come to this?

Was everybody else right? Everything they had said, Merlin, Morgana, Percy, Leon – had they been seeing what Gwaine was too stubborn to see? Or had he been too frightened to look?

Had he just lost everything he never knew he had or even wanted?
