“Merlin, why are we going to the tavern again?” Arthur asked as they made their way down the castle steps.
"Because Gwaine set up a drinking contest with some of the other knights and he invited us,” Merlin replied. This wasn’t the first time he’d explained this to Arthur, who had a hard time breaking away from his duties these days. He could use a night out, even if he didn’t participate. And he wouldn’t.
“Watching Gwaine drink doesn’t sound like much fun.”
Merlin sighed. “Maybe not to you, but you need a night out and we’re going.”
Ahead of him, Arthur stopped and turned around. “What was that?”
“Um, an order? But I promise it will be more fun than you think it will be. Think of everyone losing to Gwaine. That’ll be a riot.”
“There may very well be a riot, but fine. We’ll go. I have been working too hard lately.” Arthur turned and resumed his steps to the lower town.
Merlin grinned. He’d nearly been done with there for a minute, but he counted this as a victory. Arthur would likely have a good time and it would be nice to see him relaxed for once. It had been a long, hard battle for Camelot and everyone deserved to have a good time. Even if they all lost to Gwaine.
