Merlin and Morgana walked to school hand-in-hand. They talked about various things until, out of the blue, Morgana said, “Why don’t you have a pet name for me?”

Merlin stopped and looked at her. “You’ve never mentioned that you wanted one.”

“I do. So let’s come up with a good one.”

“Okay. How about ‘dear.’”

Morgana frowned. “What are we, forty years old?”

“All right. How do you feel about ‘love’?”

“That’s one’s overused.”

Merlin sighed. “’Sweetheart.’”

“Too long.”

“Right. So what about ‘sweetie’?”

Morgana paused to think. Then she grinned. “That’s the one River Song uses for the Doctor. I love it. Now, use it in a sentence for me.”

“Would you like me to kiss you now, sweetie?”

“It’s perfect! And yes, I would.”

Merlin pulled her close and pressed their lips together. He made to break away, but Morgana put a hand on the back of his head and pushed him back to her. When she finally broke away, she had a big smile on her face. Merlin smiled back and took her hand again. They began walking again.

“Thank you,” Morgana said.

“For what?”

“The pet name. I’m going to love it forever.”

“I’m glad, sweetie.”
