Author’s notes: Not beta’d. Yay! What else is new. This takes us back into the universe of Captain Arthur of the Camelot…ahem! Ambassardors Pendragon and Emrys on board the Camelot. If you don’t know them, Here is their story.

“Requesting permission to enter sick bay.” Arthur was already halfways inside. He still couldn’t get used to requesting permission to enter anything on the Camelot. He wasn’t her Captain anymore and that by his own choice, but it was so engrained in him that he forgot most of the time. Usually nobody minded, but with Morgana, you never knew.

“Granted.”

Rushing over to where Merlin sat on one of the medical benches, Arthur looked from his husband to his sister and back. “What happened?”

Merlin tried to put on a smile but when Morgana’s instruments started to do their work, he flinched and let out a little grunt from between gritted teeth. “Malfunction in powers unit.”

Yeah, right, in this state, there was no getting decent information out of Merlin, so he just reached for his hand and held it.

Morgana was in focused work-mode and Arthur knew better than to ask her questions.

A young med-tech hovered close-by. “From what we know, he was trying to fix an old power unit and that didn’t go as planned.”

Arthur sighed. It was not like the engine room needed Merlin and it was not like they weren’t busy enough with their ambassador jobs, but Merlin seemed to like fixing things, fiddling with them long enough to work again, things that were way beyond repair and he always had that childish delight on his face when he managed to bring them back to life. Arthur was always worried when it was more than the coffee maker…correction, he was worried about Merlin fixing the coffee maker, too, as after Merlin’s initial repair it had produced orange juice and started to spin when it was plugged in…but his fears had been confirmed now that Merlin’s shoulder looked badly burned.

“Can you heal it with magic?” Arthur had never seen Merlin like this. Usually, when he obtained little cuts or bruises, he had his magic at hand and Arthur had seen wounds disappear before his eyes.

“Dos so.” Merlin flinched again when Morgana used another one of her medical tools.

“Arthur, could you not be in the way for a moment?” Morgana snarled and shoved him aside. “Merlin’s using his magic to heal this while we use our tools to support his efforts.”

Arthur hovered in the background and tried to not to disturb anyone while his anxiety peaked. Would Merlin be okay?

It took endless minutes before Morgana pulled back and nodded. From where he stood, it looked at is the ugly burn would slowly started to close and Merlin looked a lot more relaxed than before.

“Is it…?”

Merlin turned his head and smiled at him, holding his hand out.

In an instant, Arthur was at his side, took the hand and pressed a kiss against the knuckles. “Does it work?”

“You ever seens magic not work?” Merlin smiled, but he was obviously exhausted.

“Can I take him to our quarters?” Arthur looked at Morgana.

“Give this a moment. When I’m sure that magic doesn’t need another boost from good old technology, you can. Just make sure he stays in bed and rests.”

Merlin chuckled slightly at the audacity that magic might need help from Union technology, but overall, he seemed happy that Morgana helped. “Thank you, Healer.”

A while later that seemed like an eternity, Merlin got a bandage around his shoulder and was good to go.

“Thanks, Morgs.”

“I’ll be over later to check on him again.”

“No talks as if me not be here.” Merlin protested weakly.

When they were back in their quarters, Arthur made sure that Merlin lied down, got him his favorite Ealdorian tea from the replicator and sat with him until he fell asleep.

His mind knew that Merlin would wake up and be fit. Magic worked like that. He just needed some sleep as using magic to heal a wound like that was exhausting. Still, he worried his head off. He needed to find out what happened exactly and maybe would work out a way so Merlin would never get himself in danger like this again.

After hours of going through logs and talking to Gwen, Arthur gave up. It had been an accident. And who was he trying to fool anyway? There was no way to keep Merlin from doing these things. He was careful, but he also trusted in magic so much because he knew that she would heal him.

Arthur looked over to where Merlin was slightly snoring in his sleep, he wished he could trust in magic the way Merlin did.
