Merlin emerged from the forest into a clearing, then stopped short as he took in the sight before him: a beautiful man with a body worthy of an ancient god, his pale, perfect flesh shimmering under a fall of water as he rose out of the clear mountain lake. It took Merlin a moment to gather his wits and he backed into the trees to hide while he assessed the situation. He watched as the man began walking out of the water. Something was off. He was a little too perfect and his movements had a gliding, surreal quality.
Merlin retreated behind a tree to take stock. The man was no human, he realized now. He was an illusion, a mirage designed to lure Merlin into some kind of trap.

Morgana, of course.

He stole another look. The ‘man’ might be a mirage but he was one built to Merlin’s specifications, with a muscular torso, blond hair and blue eyes. Somehow Morgana knew his innermost desires. He clenched his fists in anger and frustration. For of course, he longed to run his hand down the marble-like skin, explore every inch of it with his tongue. It was pointless, however, because probably the image would disperse into nothingness as soon as he touched it. Or worse. It was yet another of Morgana’s ruses, meant to tempt and defy him, lead him to do things he shouldn’t.

As he watched, the so-called man dipped his head into the water and flipped it back, smoothing his hair down with his hands and arching his strong neck.

It was tempting.

Merlin let the idea run through his head for a few moments, imagined stepping out from his hiding spot and going up to the man, pulling him into an embrace and possessing that gorgeous body even for a short time. He could always pretend it was Arthur, as he had countless times before when a blond head bobbed between his legs or took him from behind, rutting with muscular thighs clamped against his. He could let Morgana’s magic flow through him and try to avoid her traps while wringing what enjoyment he could from the illusion.
But when it ended, he’d know it wasn’t Arthur and the pain would be greater than ever. No, not worth it.

With a wistful glance, he turned back into the shadows to find another path, hopefully one not so fraught with danger.

I love the idea of Morgana setting this trap, knowing who it is that Merlin wants most.

Oh, that was sad. But I loved the strength you showed in Merlin for his resistance.

I guess the fact he needed an Arthur substitute just got me.
