It wasn't so much the puppy licking Merlin's face that bothered him. After all, Merlin was extremely… lickable although Arthur wasn't sure he should be thinking things like that and even if he did, he was certain Merlin wouldn't approve. After all, the man was shy enough, stammering every time a girl looked at him and whenever Arthur said something, made a joke about it, Merlin would glare at him, stomping off, offended for some reason. Usually, there was a distinct mutter of 'prat' or 'clotpole' or some other ridiculous insult following in Merlin's wake.
No, it wasn't the licking - well, it was the licking but more than that, Merlin was letting the pup crawl all over him, wiggling into warm intimate places, nipping at that luscious collarbone of his, a wet nose nudging insistently against a pale cheek and Merlin was laughing about it, looking so relaxed and happy that it made Arthur burn with the loss.
He wanted to be the one to brush up against Merlin, push him down into the soft grass and cover him with kisses and insistence. And a puppy beat him to it.
Well, two could play at that game. This was war!
