It was only 10:30 on a dull, Tuesday morning and Arthur already felt like going home and drinking a jug of coffee before retreating back to his bed. Okay, 10:30 really wasn't an early time, but being surrounded by a bunch of people with only the company of his dreadful step-sister, Morgana, was enough to make him tired and grumpy.

"I really hope this guy is worth all of the trouble of travelling out here," Arthur told Morgana.

"I've heard fantastic reviews about Merlin!" Morgana said, pulling her hair back into a pony tail due to the heat being processed through the auditorium, which was by no means small.

The acoustics were set up wonderfully around the building and you could fit in at least two thousand into the auditorium, still able to hear whatever is happening on stage. A musician's dream.

"If there are already reviews about Merlin then why did father send us here to review him?"

"We are a very popular record company, Arthur. If we were to review Merlin, write a smashing article, then sell his CD's, our business would make plenty of money."

"Of course it all comes down to making some profit..."

"Oh, shut up," Morgana went back to look at her program.

Arthur shifted in his seat, adjusting his shirt collar. He wished that someone would turn on the air conditioning. Though he was also curious as to what this pianist would sound like.

It had seemed to be that the mentionings of Merlin Emrys came out of nowhere, and happened to be big in the music industry. What Arthur didn't understand was how he never heard of Merlin, even though he was about to go on a tour.

Pretty soon the lights were dimmed down, only to be brightened up on the stage. Arthur prepared himself for the worst and the best to come.

A man in a grey suit jacket emerged on the stage. He was old and seemed to carry with him a slight limp. The microphone was grabbed.

"Good morning everyone! Please bring your hands together for Merlin Emrys." The man walked off the stage, and another walked out. A round of applause thundered throughout the auditorium.

Arthur guessed for the man to be Merlin Emrys. Well, he at least appeared to be the Merlin on the front of his program. Arthur looked up at the real Merlin, admiring his looks.

He had a charming, yet goofy smile on his face as he bowed to the audience and straightened out his tuxedo before plopping down onto the piano bench.

(It was a black grand piano-a beauty)

Silence soon came as everyone anticipated Merlin to begin his song. He shook his hands about, then struck the first few notes to Revolutionary Etude by Chopin.

Arthur was struck with wonder as he watched Merlin climb up and down the keys of the piano, his hands everywhere. He moved along to the crescendos and decrescendos, pounding away at the piano. Arthur had never recalled hearing anything of the sort.

And suddenly the song was over, ended abruptly with two chords. Merlin stood up, and looked back at the crowd, smiling. Everyone, including Arthur, was giving him a standing ovation.

* * *
Arthur had waited until everyone cleared out, telling Morgana to wait in the car for him. He found Merlin, and approached him. Merlin greeted him with a smile.

"I'm Arthur Pendragon," He held out his hand and shook Merlin's, which was slightly calloused. Merlin let go at the mention of his name.

"The Arthur Pendragon? Of the Camelot Recording Studios?" Merlin asked, dumbfounded. He ran his hands through ebony hair, "If I had known you'd be here today I would have played a different song!"

Arthur became slightly attracted to Merlin, even though he had only seen him for a mere five minutes. "No, that song was fantastic. I loved it."

"Are you sure?" Merlin asked.

Arthur narrowed his eyes. "Positive. Although...I'd love to hear another. Have any time to play a better song?"

"Absolutely!" Merlin said. He sat back onto the piano bench, and Arthur felt a smile tug on the corner of his lips. Perhaps this was worth the trouble of travelling. Maybe.

Lovely image of A musical genius Merlin, with his goofy smile. I enjoyed how he sat to play for Arthur again at the end, and would be interested in seeing how this story develops if you decide on a part 2!
