Title: Unhappy Hallowe'en
Rating: G
Pairing/s: Arthur/Merlin
Character/s: Arthur, Merlin
Warnings: None
Word Count: 200
Prompt: 132, Haunted
Author's Notes: Arthur should know better than to bet with Morgana
Arthur could feel Merlin shivering as they pushed the suitably creaky unlocked front door open and shined their flashlights into the dusty front room. Drop cloth covered furniture cast macabre shadows on walls and floor. Arthur felt an icy finger of fear crawl up his back.
“We don’t have to do this,” Merlin whispered, clutching Arthur’s sweaty hand more tightly. “We can go sleep in the car and tell Morgana that we stayed here.”
Arthur actually thought about it for a beat. The old Victorian looked just as scary as Morgana claimed and he was more unnerved than expected but, dammit, he’d lost the bet. He wasn’t backing down. “You can go sleep in the car. I said I’d spend the night here and that’s what I’m doing. Morgana’s probably installed cameras in every room.”
Merlin hitched his backpack and picked the sleeping bag up off the porch. “Separating is a sure way to get you killed in the first ten minutes of any horror movie,” he said with authority.
Arthur took a deep breath and crossed the threshold, Merlin warm at his back.
“Don’t be scared,” he instructed, “I’ll protect you from any ghosts.”
“You’d better,” Merlin muttered darkly.
