Title: In the Quiet Cold
Rating: G
Pairing/s: Uther/Ygraine
Character/s: Uther
Warnings: Grief
Word Count: 100
Prompt: 150, Uther

Uther missed the sound of another’s breaths in his now too empty chambers, the warmth of another body in his too empty bed. Heated bricks were no substitute for warm feet, tangled legs, sweet hands.

He’d thought to settle the prince in his rooms as he and Ygraine had planned but Gaius dissuaded him, citing the new prince’s erratic feeding schedule as a constant disruption for some time. Placing his son with the wet nurse made better sense.

In the quiet cold, Uther lay awake, knowing a crying baby would be more welcome than the lonely, empty hours stretching ahead.

I could almost forgive him for what he'd done. Well done.

Sad...I think it might have been much better for both father and son to have been allowed that bonding time. Inconvenient for a King but crucial for a father. One has to wonder if Uther would have been such a cold, distant father had he personally taken care of Arthur as a baby...somehow I doubt it. This was excellently done!!

Dare I say it, I almost feel bad for Uther here, and that's not an easy task. Very nice. ;)

Uther's grief for Ygraine is rarely described like this! Well done!
