Arthur knocked on the jamb of his father’s open office door, the requested financial report in hand.
Uther looked up, “Oh, Arthur, come in, take a seat. We can go over April’s numbers…” He paused, eyes widening. “What on earth are you wearing?”
Arthur looked down at himself. “A polo and khakis. It’s Friday, father.
Casual Friday.” He took in Uther’s pinstriped button down and tie. Uther Pendragon did not do casual.
Uther eyed the polo. “No. What is written over the pocket? Does that say Clotpole?”
“Oh, yeah, Will got this for me on Merlin’s birthday. To be honest, I was a bit annoyed and shoved it into a drawer.” The wattage of Arthur’s smile was almost blinding. “He said it would make Merlin laugh every time he sees me in it. He’s been having a rough time with Gaius being in hospital so I dug it out hoping it might cheer him up.”
“Did it work?”
“Yeah. He left for work with a grin on his face.”
Uther laughed and shook his head, “You’ve got it bad, son.”
Arthur shrugged, hand brushing over the embroidered insult, “No, dad, I think I’ve got it great.”
Uther had to agree.
